| What’s So Christmas-y About A Pear Tree? |
| Tuesday, December 26, 2006 |
Food, Laughter, Gifts, and an old fashioned Ass Whooping in Cranium – just how I love to spend my time with family.
There was no arguing or bickering … and most of us got what we wanted.
Of course, Yoda & Pieter couldn’t contain their Christmas Spirit and there was much teasing and taunting and an occasional growl. The adults retaliated by not awarding them with gifts – I don’t think this was a suitable punishment, however, as they don’t truly recognize Christmas as an official holiday in the first place.

Hands down, the best part about the whole holiday is the Orange Danish Rolls. Somehow I convinced myself to hold off on baking them until Christmas Morning, and my primary nourishment for the day was derived from their gooey goodness. I’m not a very “sentimental, traditional” type person, but you don’t mess with my Orange Danish Rolls on Christmas. Period.
Also, I do believe I have found another format of blog. I’m giving it a trial run for the time being … you can find it here in the meantime while I make up my mind which I want to stick with. If you have an opinion, please let me know.
So, now that the wonderful break from normal life is over I’m back at work … trying desperately to avoid opening my email.Labels: Daily, Family, Life, Pets |

| Something About Sand in an Hourglass? |
| Thursday, December 21, 2006 |
The weather, as in most regions of the nation, has been very comfortable as of late. I guess this isn't necessarily "unseasonable" for Florida, but warm and sunny days is certainly something to smile about.
In a perfect world (as in: in a world where I could stick to the agenda I create in the first place) I would have spent these late afternoon/early evenings riding the bike, or hanging out on the deck with Marty & Pieter. Instead it's been rather chaotic: shopping, shipping, cooking, trafficking, you know the drill.
I'm not one for New Year's Resolutions, but this year I have several areas of my life that need a closer examination, and leisure time is definitely one of them. I have an entire book of great bike trails and state parks that we would love to try out ... and we talk about it, but "doing it" seems to be the problem. Why? Because work expands to fill the time you allow for it.
Beginning this weekend, I am going to make strides to get my tasks accomplished in a speedy fashion so that we will actually have time together to enjoy ourselves & each other.
With that being said, if I could please get a few volunteers to assist me in Christmas preparations it would certainly expedite my plan here. Any takers? Anybody? Anyone?Labels: Daily, Life |

| Feels Like Home |
| Wednesday, December 20, 2006 |
After coming home from the business trip last night I got to take a LONG, HOT shower in my new bathroom, climbed into an old ratty comfortable T-shirt, slathered the feet with menthol-powered foot rub, followed by a pair of Marty's big socks and hopped into my heating-blanket-warmed bed.
It took Pieter a few minutes to realize it was time for bed, but once he settled into his bed, I covered him up and the husband and I settled in for the Sponge Bob Square Pants Christmas Special. It was the perfect way to end the last few days, and I got the best sleep last night knowing I was at home with my tiny little family.
Amen.Labels: Daily, Holidailies, Love |

| You'll Run The Bill Up, Kid! |
| Monday, December 18, 2006 |
I've got to tell you that I have finally finished my Christmas shopping ... while out of town ... with my boss ... in a strange place. And, it also would've helped if I had remembered that I only brought a carry-on with me, so I have NO room to take these wonderful gifts home with me tomorrow. Instead, I've opted to wrap & ship them to their respective destinations from the beautiful city of Baltimore. No problem, right?
Well, Step One of this task would be to wrap the gifts. No problem! I was very optimistic this evening when I asked my boss if we could swing by Wal-Mart so I could purchase wrapping paper, scissors and tape. Wal-Mart was surprisingly un-crowded (maybe that's the difference between Baltimor-ians and Floridians). After some searching I finally found the tape and $9.18 later was in the car and heading toward the hotel.
And, OF COURSE, as soon as I emptied the bag of loot onto the bed, I found that I had just purchased a new roll of "poster tape". What the hell is poster tape?! And who the hell buys it (besides me, by mistake of course)?! And WHY would Wal-Mart purposely HIDE their gift-wrap-tape from me and instead trick me into buying some teeny-bopper-hope-it-holds-up-the-jumbo-tribute-to-the-gay-guy-from-Back-Street-Boys-roll of poster tape?!
Anyway, three hours later, the gifts are wrapped ... 2-sided-tape-style ... and tomorrow on the way to the airport we will swing by the local UPS Store and ship these glitzy, shiny packages to the West. But my gosh, were they a ever a bitch!!
I'm almost done with the shopping ... still have the mother-in-law to do, and then the grandparents. I already know what Papaw is getting (with the help of Marty) but need to determine whether to have the item shipped to his FL address or KY (where he will be spending Christmas). I tell ya, mobile grandparents are like moving targets.
Anyway ... the heater here in Baltimore has completely dried out my eyeballs and I'm getting kinda cranky after watching an evening of local television. Good night, All!
And to my Husband ... I will see you tomorrow night!! :) Labels: Daily, Holidailies, Travel |
